For the final entry of my first quarter at DU it is wonderful to announce that the Thompson opening reception was a huge success and the show is fabuloso! Thank you to everyone that came out last Thursday evening.  Our guest curators were busy all night explaining Thompson and his development as a Modern artist to the visitors that came in throughout the evening. Didn’t get a personalized tour of the gallery? Student curators Kirsten Nicholas (pictured above), Molly Nuanes, and Sarah Mills have been busy bees in the gallery this past week.  Yesterday they learned the art of hanging as the countdown to Thompson continues. Photo Shoot in the South Gallery Today

As I sit here writing to you all, the works featured in the upcoming John Edward Thompson exhibition are being photographed by Bill O’Connor. The photographs will be published in the accompanying catalog for the exhibition opening on November 12th in our South Gallery. Thompson (b. 1882) was a pioneering artist who served on the DU faculty from 1929 to his death in 1945. The exhibition will include paintings, sketches, and drawings from DU’s permanent collection and other regional sources. The BFA Show

The BFA show has been a great success, with twelve of our students showing their work ranging from painting to photography to electronic media. Although the show does not have an official theme, many of our students were interested in environmental issues and the idea of eliminating boundaries. The exhibition is up through graduation on Saturday June 6th, so make sure to stop by and see what our students have accomplished! Paul Soldner and American Raku

Hello everyone! We at the Victoria Myhren Gallery have been quite busy this winter break getting ready for an exciting winter quarter of events. The next show, a retrospective on American master ceramicist Paul Soldner, opens Thursday January 8 from 5-8pm and we are installing it this week. The first event associated with the show is an American Raku workshop on Friday, Jan 9 from 12-4 led by SAAH prof Mia Mulvey and local Raku master Bob Smith.
