In 2009, Gyatso became the first Tibetan artist to exhibit at the Venice Biennale and his work is collected in several international museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Together, the two discuss the influences of the Zoot suit’s history, pop culture, and lived experiences on the Texas-Mexico border have had on Michie’s practices in painting and sculpture. Michie’s work is currently featured at the Vicki Myhren Gallery as part of the exhibition Young, Gifted, and Black: The Lumpkin-Boccuzzi Collection of Contemporary Art, on view through April 30.
