School group visits

School group visits

The normally hushed hallways of the School of Art and Art History have recently been ringing with the sounds of excited Kindergarteners. The Myhren Gallery has hosted multiple groups of school children and their parents over the past two weeks. On October 25th, a group from the Ricks Center here at DU stopped by; a great favorite was Chen Wenling’s “Happy Life #8” in the lobby. The following week, on November 1st, three groups of 20 children (and their parents) cycled through the gallery, which was one stop on a campus-wide tour. The young students spent the most time in...

Homecoming Weekend Open House

Homecoming Weekend Open House

Not much beats a university campus in the fall! The University of Denver recently celebrated its Homecoming and Family Weekend October 24-27. Students, families and alumna gathered together for three event-packed days, and the beautiful autumn weather cooperated. We here at the gallery also opened our doors to the throngs of people strolling through campus on Saturday. It was great to get to chat with returning alums, as well as meet with new prospective students interested in the programs offered at the School of Art and Art History. Food and drink abounded, and we were happy to welcome new visitors...

Alumni Show Opening Reception

Alumni Show Opening Reception

The 2013 Juried Alumni Show opened at the Myhren Gallery on October 3rd. With 23 participating artists – along with their friends and family, and the School of Art and Art History faculty, staff and students – it was a great showing! One of the wonderful aspects of a show such as this one is the sheer variety of works on display. The exhibition showcases many different styles and creative influences. For example, there are video projections, ceramics, oil paintings on canvas, etchings, and even sculptures made out of hand-made fibers and horsehair. The reception was plenty of fun –...

2013 Alumni Show preparations

Preparations for the 2013 Juried Alumni exhibition continue! Here at the gallery, we’re continuing to receive artwork. Participating alums are stopping by with their pieces, and each day mysterious packages arrive in the mail. The walls are in place (mostly), and the gallery is transformed once again. Soon the wall vinyl will go up, paintings will be hung, and sculptures carefully positioned on pedestals. After lighting, some touch-up work and cleanup, we’ll be ready to go. The opening reception is October 3rd from 5-7 at the Myhren Gallery. There will be beverages and light hors d’oeuvres, and the event...

Art…and plenty of it!

Art…and plenty of it!

Did you know that there are over 3,000 catalogued artworks located at the Hampden Art Study Center? The HASC was designed especially for use by DU students and faculty members; researchers can browse our extensive collections quite conveniently. HASC is available by appointment for both individual research and class study sessions. Only a 15-minute drive from campus, it offers 4,000 square feet of newly renovated art storage, preparation and study rooms. It’s a great resource to take advantage of. To request a visit, please contact our collections manager, Sabena Kull, at sabena.kull@du.edu
