September 7-November 19, 2006

Negotiating Reality was curated by Director Dan Jacobs Curatorial Practicum class. Graduate students in art history and museum studies come together to create an exhibition and a related publication. Negotiating Reality  was timed to coincide with the opening of the Denver Art Museum’s new Frederic C. Hamilton Building. The Curatorial Practicum class had ten weeks to perform essential curatorial tasks. Students stayed involved by editing the publication, helping to prepare the gallery, and taking part in receptions and other events.

Chancellor Coombe, in his remarks, emphasized the major changes made possible by the Marsico Initiative, the ongoing importance of DU’s relationship with the DAM, the generosity of Vicki and Kent Logan in supporting the project, and the essential roles of Trygve and Vicki Myhren in upgrading the Gallery facilities to make such high-caliber projects possible.
