The Victoria H. Myhren Gallery at the University of Denver is pleased to present the “2011 BFA Senior Exhibition.” This annual offering features works by students graduating from the DU School of Art & Art History (SAAH) studio arts and electronic media arts and design (eMAD) programs. Participating BFA students are: Taylor Arns, Megan Sullivan, Lisa Martin, and Katinka Van Lier Ribbink.

Taylor Arns explores the different functions that ceremonies and rituals have in our private and public interactions. Her series of intaglio prints and drawings communicates Taylor’s own experience with art-making as a personal ritual connecting her with her environment. Megan Sullivan is inspired by the role of light in traditional silver-based photography. Light is an integral installation element for her photographs of domestic environments, displayed in light boxes. Lisa Martin’s childhood in Fruita, CO, is the inspiration for her playful installation of ceramic animal forms. Growing up in a rural area, Lisa developed a strong connection to nature; her artwork encourages viewers to contemplate their own personal relationships with the animal kingdom. A native Hawaiian, Katinka Van Lier Ribbink moved from a land of plentiful water to a land of drought. In her digital animation piece, she explores current water issues like privatization, scarcity, and pollution.

On view in the Shwayder Lobby: graduating seniors Nicci Shaw and Rachael Roark (BA with distinction).
