SUMMARY:Exhibition: A System in Place: In Dialogue with Sol LeWitt
DESCRIPTION:A System in Place: In Dialogue with Sol LeWitt\n\n\n\nOn view at the Vicki Myhren Gallery September 10 through November 20\, 2026\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA System in Place brings together artists whose work employs instructions\, rules\, scores\, algorithms\, and other generative systems as creative frameworks. Presented alongside two wall drawings by Sol LeWitt\, the exhibition considers the enduring influence of conceptual practices that separate conception from execution\, embrace collaboration\, and invite variation within predetermined structures. Rather than tracing a direct lineage\, the exhibition highlights the diverse ways contemporary artists continue to adapt\, challenge\, and expand the possibilities of instruction-based art. \n\n\n\nCurated by Ramón Bonilla \n\n\n\nJoin us for the opening reception on Thursday\, September 10\, 5-7 PM \n\n\n\n\nClick here for event details

SUMMARY:Book Launch & Performance: "The Magic Circle" by Trace Reddell
DESCRIPTION:Join the School of Art and Art History and Art\, Culture & Technology (ACT) to celebrate the launch of The Magic Circle: Sonic Substance in Psychedelic Music by Professor Trace Reddell. For this special book launch experience\, The Magic Circle will come to life in a sensory-saturating performance of psychedelic visual projections\, music\, and spoken word. \n\n\n\nBooks will be available for purchase at the event. \n\n\n\nFree parking will be available across the street from the gallery in Lot L. Attendants will be stationed at the gate from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. \n\n\n\n\nClick here for parking information\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the author \n\n\n\nTrace Reddell is Professor of Art\, Culture & Technology at the University of Denver. He is the author of The Sound of Things to Come and his audiovisual performances and video works have screened at over thirty international venues. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Magic CircleHow iconic psychedelic records of the 1960s unleash the transformative capacity of music to expand—and unhinge—the mind. \n\n\n\nIn the mid-sixties\, the Beatles abandoned live performance\, complaining they could no longer hear themselves on stage. Obsessed with the latest records of Bob Dylan and Brian Wilson\, and with imaginations fueled by weed and acid\, they retired to the studio. With the help of their producers and engineers\, the Beatles left a trail of novel recording practices\, audio technologies\, and records in their wake. But their realization that the act of listening to recorded sound was itself a means for altering consciousness may be the Beatles’ most significant\, though largely unacknowledged\, contribution to psychedelia. The records of subsequent groups such as the 13th Floor Elevators\, Pink Floyd\, the Byrds\, and Love further reveal how psychedelic music changes not just what we hear but how we listen. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn The Magic Circle\, Reddell threads accounts of his own psychedelic listening sessions into a hallucinatory tapestry of rock lore\, drug literature\, media studies\, cognitive philosophy\, and psychopharmacology. Proposing that the psychedelic record is a mind-manifesting drug\, Reddell traces the effects of a magic circle—the feedback loop between the record and the listener—as it transforms culture\, technology\, and consciousness. \n\n\n\n\nClick here to purchase “The Magic Circle”

SUMMARY:Curator Tour: "A System In Place"
DESCRIPTION:In Dialogue with Ramón Bonilla\n\n\n\nJoin curator and artist Ramón Bonilla on a tour of A System In Place: In Dialogue with Sol LeWitt\, on view at the Vicki Myhren Gallery through November 20. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to Register here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRamón Bonilla is an artist and curator born in San Juan\, Puerto Rico\, who currently lives and works in New York. Working through geometry and reduction\, Bonilla’s artwork is conceived through accumulated observation\, thinking\, and making do. His wall drawings extend this approach into physical space\, beginning with a grid and then working against it until something else emerges. For Bonilla\, working with found\, repurposed\, or available materials rather than purpose-built ones is not just a formal choice; it mirrors a reality of working with what you have\, when you have time. \n\n\n\nHis piece Ordinary Magic––currently on view at the Vicki Myhren Gallery––exemplifies this approach by incorporating materials found outside while walking during a lunch break. The installation process began with a neat and orderly grid on the wall and through creative reductions and additions\, resulted in a complex and dynamic construction. \n\n\n\nRamón Bonilla\, Ordinary Magic: Walk Outside During Lunch Break and Pick Up Stuff from the Ground\, 2026. Photo by Wes Magyar.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree parking will be available in Lot L across the street from the gallery. Attendants will be at the lot from 3:30 to 4:30 PM. \n\n\n\n\nClick here for parking information & Directions

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Shelter in Place\, Shelter in Space
DESCRIPTION:In a world shaped by environmental crises\, political upheaval\, and uncertain futures\, what does it mean to seek shelter? Shelter in Place\, Shelter in Space brings together contemporary artists who explore the tensions between staying and leaving\, protection and escape\, survival and transformation. Through sculpture\, painting\, film\, and installation\, the exhibition considers how individuals and communities respond to instability and what they choose to preserve\, carry forward\, or reimagine. Moving between lived realities and speculative futures\, Shelter in Place asks how memory\, creativity\, and collective care can help us navigate an uncertain world and imagine new possibilities for living together.  \n\n\n\nFeaturing work by Larry Achiampong\, Chris Bagley\, Beatriz Cortez\, Chitra Ganesh\, David Huffman\, Dario Robleto\, Cauleen Smith\, and Anna Tsouhlarakis. \n\n\n\nCurated by Geoffrey Shamos \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the opening reception on Thursday\, January 14\, 2027 from 5-7 PM. \n\n\n\n\nOpening reception event information
